Fun at the North Carolina State Fair

NC State Fair Outing

At Pine Springs Preparatory Virtual Academy, we know that learning extends far beyond the digital classroom. This month, PSPVA students had a unique opportunity to step away from their screens and enjoy an iconic North Carolina tradition—the State Fair!

The North Carolina State Fair offers students an incredible blend of excitement and education. With everything from agriculture exhibits and STEM displays to cultural experiences, the fair presents countless learning opportunities disguised as fun.

Many families used this outing to meet other PSPVA families and connect with teachers and staff. For many of our students, attending the fair was their first chance to meet their classmates face-to-face, making it a memorable bonding experience, according to Community Engagement Specialist Jaimee Miller.

“Being at the fair together really captured the spirit of our school—learning in a fun, engaging way while strengthening the bonds between students, families, and staff. Watching the students meet face-to-face for the first time was an absolute highlight for me. I’m still a little dizzy from riding the Alien Invasion with some of our 10th graders, but it was all worth it to share in the excitement,” Miller said.

In addition to the community connections, attending the fair allowed our students to experience hands-on learning. Visiting animal exhibits provided context for science lessons, while cultural displays gave them a taste of North Carolina’s diverse heritage. And of course, the fair’s thrilling rides, delicious food, and entertaining performances added plenty of excitement!

At Pine Springs Preparatory Virtual Academy, we’re committed to blending the flexibility of online learning with enriching experiences that keep students engaged and inspired. The State Fair was a wonderful reminder that our community is vibrant, supportive, and always ready to make learning an adventure.

“PSPVA is dedicated to affording flexibility to the families that we serve while also supporting authentic learning experiences for our students. We achieve this aim by designing self-paced off-line activities to accompany live on-line instruction delivered by our passionate certified teachers. Students build community beyond the classroom through participation in engaging virtual clubs,” said Executive Director, Dr. Shelton Jefferies.
