Staff Spotlight: Sara Kordbacheh

Meet Sara Kordbacheh, a member of Pine Springs Preparatory Virtual Academy’s rockstar counseling team!
A Passion for Mental Health
Ms. Kordbacheh has always had a passion for mental health. She received her bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology from UNC Greensboro and a master’s degree in mental health counseling from Marshall University.
She has been a counselor for the past 16 years, and in education for 11 years – a choice she’s grateful for every day.
“The best part of counseling high school students, at least for me, is when I’m able to find common ground with that student. When I’m able to meet the student at their level and establish that rapport. Get them to share things that they will not share with anybody else.”
Connection – and Communication – is Key
Communication with parents is as important as with students. Ms. Kordbacheh sends biweekly emails with class updates and monthly newsletters that include internship and scholarship opportunities available throughout the state to keep lines of communication flowing.
She has found that one-on-one meetings with the students really help to build relationships and creates a safe space for them. She has also created “homeroom” sessions, where the group can discuss topics like class scheduling, graduation plans and test preparation.
“The more communication you can have with the student – and the family – the better. Getting their attention, and keeping it, is key!”
You have our attention, Ms. Kordbacheh – and it sounds like these high schoolers are in the best hands!
