Teacher Spotlight: Richelle Sutton

Stories & Spotlights
Richelle

Our teachers are what make Pine Springs Preparatory Virtual Academy (PSPVA) so special. We would like to introduce you to one of our kindergarten teachers, Ms. Richelle Sutton.

PSPVA – the start of a new journey

After graduating from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina, Richelle started her teaching career and over the past eleven years, has taught every grade (except third!), along with English as a Second Language for students located in China.

After taking a brief break from teaching in 2022, she realized how much she missed the classroom. She discovered PSPVA and was excited to be part of this brand-new school – new school, new students – a fresh start.

Family unit = success

Being a virtual classroom has allowed Ms. Sutton to work closely with parents, encouraging them to be hands on with their student and knowing they are not alone – that they are working together as a “family unit”, made up of the parents, student and teacher.

“I always say that we’re “ohana”, and ohana means family, and nobody gets left behind or forgotten. Whether I see you every day, once a week, or for a minute, it doesn’t matter. You’re still part of my ohana.”

She’s passionate about instilling a love for learning in her students from the very first day of class and looks forward to seeing her “babies” thrive.
